St. Anny, Rotterdam – food shopping

by peejeej on July 7th, 2010

It has been a while since we bought some snacks from St. Anny in Rotterdam. We were in the neighbourhood scored some Chinese roasted pork at May Fung went by St. Anny’s and got these goodies.

Fried char siu bao

Fried Cha siu bao. We never seen or had these before. The outside is nice and crispy and the inside has the soft firm texture of my scones. The bread seems slightly sweet which goes well with the cha siu filling. Will definitely buy these again.

Ham Sui Kok & Chicken pie

On the left, Ham sui kok a fried glutinous rice ball filled with meat and vegetables. I’m guessing this one only has pork. These didn’t have that much filling, but they were fine none the less.

On the right is a Chinese chicken pie, it’s about the size of my index fingers and thumbs making a circle. It’s flat like a cookie, has a crumbly top (like pie crust) and a flaky puffpastry like bottom. It’s filled with a chicken, onion and corn mix. A nice little snack for when you aren’t too hungry.

Dim Daily Take away

by peejeej on December 8th, 2009

dimdaily Last sunday we went for some Dim Daily take away. Our favorite restaurant was closed so we went for the next option. It had been a while since we had food from Dim Daily. Don’t think we’ll be having the same from them again.

We ordered beef ho fan (rice stick noodles), ngau yuk kau (beef dim sum) and a pork dim sum wrapped in bean curd sheet. It was a bit of a let down. The rice sticks were fine. The thin strips of beef were nice and tender, but they had a not very pleasant stock like flavor. Not the deep luscious soy flavor we’re used to. The beef dim sum was nice, the pork dim sum was pretty bland.

It’s a shame, we used to visit Dim Daily regularly a couple of years ago. They also do sushi, but for sushi I’d rather go elsewhere.

Sushi ya take away Maastricht

sushi ya Maastricht
We spent a week in Maastricht and had a chance to pig out on some yummy foods. After a bit of shopping we brought home some Sushi Ya sushi. I had the set on the left containing: 2 tuna maki, 2 salmon maki, 2 california maki, 2 tempura shrimp maki and 2 spicy tuna maki. Apart from the spicy tuna maki everything was very nice. It’s a shame though that the rice was a bit cold, room temperature rice is so much nicer. The BF’s set had 2 tuna nigiri, 2 salmon nigiri, 3 tuna maki and 3 salmon maki. All goooood. <3

Birthday munchies

Koekela carrot and truffle cakeFor my 30th birthday we bought some yummy stuff at Koekela. Most of what we got didn’t survive long enough for me to take pictures.

We got, 3 pieces of carrot cake, 2 pieces of truffle cake, 4 pecan squares, 2 caramel slices, 2 fudge brownies, 1 blondie and 1 fudge browny with hazelnuts.

Everything was so delicious, I can’t really pick a favourite so I won’t :p.
